Honestly, I don't know what to think about the Avatar or Second Life? I can see where it can be a bit entertaining, especially when you're in the process of creating it. However, unlike other internet entertainment, it's not an affective way of communication because it's other functions are disruptive. I'm also not the type that likes to talk to strangers. It's hard enough for me to talk to people I know, so imagine how difficult it is for me to spark up a conversation with a complete stranger? Is it just me or does anyone else think Second Life is a bit creepy? It also took alot out of my computer and the program ran really slow. Anywho, I'm starting to rant so I'm signing off now. BYE!

I really didn't find it all that amusing. In fact, the only reason I really tried getting into it was for class, but it didn't happen. I haven't even been back on since my last episode trying to build a house and so forth. I really do want to try changing my appearance as Dr. Greenberg suggested, but I'm not sure I'll get much of a thrill out of it seeing as to how it's make believe. I'm sure in the real world, I would see a difference, but not in cyberspace. We'll see. I may go back to Second Life before class on Thursday, just to see how it goes. Wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do go back. If there had been no Christopher Columbus willing to adventure and explore the world---
ReplyDeletewe'd all still be Italians!
But seriously, since this virtual world is so popular, and all of us think it is kind of creepy, I think it makes great research to see how this can be so disperate.
